Should an Ontological Pluralist Be a Quantificational Pluralist?

چکیده
Ontological pluralism is the view that there are different fundamental ways of being. Recent defenders this view—such as Kris McDaniel and Jason Turner—have taken these being to be best captured by semantically primitive quantifier expressions ranging over domains. They have thus endorsed, what I shall call, quantificational pluralism. argue focus on quantification a mistake. For, view, structure—or for short—will whatever part or aspect reality’s structure expression carves out reflects. But if true, then should more natural than its corresponding domain; since it does not appear case domain, true. Thus, claim, an ontological pluralist pluralist.

Can a reductionist be a pluralist?
Pluralism is often put forth as a counter-position to reductionism. In this essay, I argue that reductionism and pluralism are in fact consistent. I propose that there are several potential goals for reductions and that the proper form of a reduction should be considered in tandem with the goal that it aims to achieve. This insight provides a basis for clarifying what version(s) of reductionism...

This paper explores relationships between interpretivist and positivist information systems research. The philosophical bases of these research methodologies are used to evaluate suggested pluralistic research designs. Three calls for methodological pluralism are shown to be unsoundly based as they appear not to have considered the implications of adopting the basic assumptions upon which their...

In this paper, I defend the view that there is a plurality of styles of reasoning: different domains of science often invoke different styles. I argue that th...

However, this traditional view of masculinity began to change in the mid-1990’s with the introduction of the metrosexual (Simpson 1994), heterosexual men with traits and interests in fashion...
